Hundstage Hundstage (dogs' days). It's hot. The thermometer climbs above 30 degrees C°. The sun burns hot from a blue, blue sky. The dogs remain in the shade waiting for  cooler hours. So do many of the people who live in Zurich. They may float down the river Limmat on a Gummiboot or Luftmatraze. They may go for a swim in the lake or sit quitely in the shade and enjoy a cool drink or a Gelato. Switzerland does not have many such days (or used not to have many of them). They usually occur at the end of July, beginning of August. The country is in shut down mode as it is also holiday season. Even during the Corona summer, when many are staying in Switzerland and not travelling to the sea somewhere in the world - the city of Zurich is quiet, almost like during the Corona-lock down of March and April this year. But not so at the places...

Habits vs. Resolutions We are well into the new year and maybe some of your New Year's Resolutions have already been quietly buried. This is what happens to most of us. But instead of getting frustrated with the short life of our resolutions, I suggest to focus on building new habits. Instead of making a resolution such as "Learn German", think about small steps, that may become habits - habits that will help you learn or improve your German. Habits take time to form. They require above all repetition, repetition, repetition - until you do something without even thinking much about it, until it has become routine. Our life consists of habits and routines. There are thousands of little things we do without even thinking about it. If it were otherwise we would all be exhausted before long and our brain would shut down. Habits make our life a lot easier. Habits are not always things we like doing, but we do...
